Personal Journey That Evolved into a
Scalable Method
Shaped by Experience, Professional Insight,
and Understanding of the Body
Meet the Founder
Dermasoma® was founded by Jayne Montgomery, drawing on decades of experience across beauty, skincare, aroma, education and wellbeing.
Throughout her career, Jayne ran a beauty school for a large international cosmetic and skincare company, successfully owned and operated a chain of hair and beauty salons, delivered professional seminars and lectures throughout the UK and Europe, appeared on television, and written extensively on skincare, wellness and personal development.
Working with thousands of clients over many years gave her a unique perspective on the changing wellbeing landscape.
She began to notice a common theme.
People were searching for something more than beauty treatments, fitness classes or traditional wellness services.
They were searching for connection.
- Connection with themselves.
- Connection with their bodies.
- Connection with how they truly felt.
The Personal Journey That Inspired a New Method
Alongside a successful career in beauty, education and wellbeing, Jayne experienced a deeply transformative period in her personal life that would ultimately become the catalyst for Dermasoma®.
Following many years in a narcistic marriage characterised by emotional difficulty, she often found herself feeling disconnected from her sense of self, overwhelmed by stress and searching for a way to find peace and clarity.
During this time, she developed a simple but powerful habit.
Often in the evenings, she would leave the house and walk alone through the fields and countryside near her home.
At first, these walks were simply an escape.
- But over time she began to notice something remarkable.
- The movement of her body.
- The scent of the earth after rain.
- The aroma of wild plants and flowers.
- The feeling of the wind against her skin.
- The sounds of nature.
- The rhythm of her breath.
Being immersed in the sensory experience of nature seemed to calm her nervous system in a way she could not fully explain.
With every walk she felt lighter, more connected and more present.
For a short time, the noise would quieten. The tension she carried in her body seemed to soften as she walked through open
fields, breathed fresh air and immersed herself in the sights, sounds, aromas and textures of the natural world.
Without realising it, she was experiencing something that would later become central to Dermasoma®.
- Movement was helping.
- Nature was helping.
- The senses were helping.
What began as a search for solace became a profound exploration into the relationship between the body, the senses and emotional wellbeing.
Looking back, Jayne realised these experiences were not simply helping her cope with a difficult chapter in her life. They were teaching her something profound about the relationship between the body, sensory experience and wellbeing.
- The body responds when we feel safe.
- The senses help us reconnect.
- Movement becomes more meaningful when it is experienced rather than simply performed.
Discovering What Was Missing
Those experiences sparked a question that would stay with her for years:
"Why do we feel so different when we are fully engaged with our senses?"
As someone with an extensive background in skincare, beauty and wellbeing, Jayne became increasingly fascinated by the
connection between skin, touch, movement, aroma, breath and emotional experience.
She realised that many traditional movement practices focused almost exclusively on the mechanics of movement itself, while
an important aspect of human experience was often overlooked.
The senses.
She began exploring how movement could be enhanced through sensory awareness, mindful touch, breathwork, aroma, ritual and conscious connection with the body.
The more she explored, the more she recognised that there was an opportunity to create something entirely new.
The Question That Sparked Dermasoma®
Drawing upon her extensive background in skincare and wellbeing, Jayne began asking herself another question:
- "What if movement could become something more than exercise?"
- Why were the skin, senses, aroma, touch and sensory environment largely absent from traditional movement systems?
- What if movement could be experienced through the whole body, not simply performed by it?
- What if wellbeing was not something we did, but something we felt?
These questions became the foundation from which Dermasoma® emerged.
Creating a New Movement Methodology
The more Jayne explored the relationship between movement, sensory experience and embodied awareness, the more she
realised she was not creating another style of Yoga or another adaptation of Pilates.
She was creating something entirely new. A movement methodology built around:
- Sensory awareness
- Embodied movement
- Breath integration
- Mindful touch
- Skin-based experience
- Ritual and intention
- Nervous system awareness
Over years of development, these ideas evolved into a structured and teachable methodology.
That methodology became Dermasoma®.
Creating a New Category of Movement
More Than a Class
Today, Dermasoma® is far more than a class format.
It is a complete sensory-somatic movement system combining movement, breath, touch, skincare rituals, sensory awareness
and structured practitioner training within a unified framework.
At its heart is a simple belief:
When people feel safe enough to listen, the body already knows how to begin.
This philosophy became the inspiration behind Dermasoma's founder statement:
- "There is a moment when the body first whispers..."
- "I am ready."
- "Then Dermasoma® begins."
